Hockey and Ice Skating Now More Accessible to Underrepresented Communities Thanks to Unique Corporate Partnership

PITTSBURGH — Duquesne Light Company (DLC) today announced a new partnership with the Pittsburgh Penguins and its Hunt Armory Ice Rink to help make hockey and ice skating more accessible to underrepresented communities within the city of Pittsburgh. This year, the company is sponsoring “DLC Community Skate Days” at the Shadyside-based rink, where inner-city youth and families can participate in free skating sessions that include the costs of equipment and skate rentals. DLC and the Penguins are engaging various community groups and partnership networks to attract participants to the skate days, which are not open to the general public.

PITTSBURGH — Duquesne Light Company (DLC) today announced a first-of-its-kind apprenticeship program for overhead lineworkers in partnership with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Lineworkers (IBEW) Local 29. The flagship program recently received unanimous approval from the Apprenticeship and Training Office within Pennsylvania’s Department of Labor & Industry. Through the program, DLC’s overhead lineworkers will have an opportunity to become accredited “journey-level workers,” indicating that an individual has completed a registered apprenticeship that provides extensive hands-on and classroom training.

PITTSBURGH — Duquesne Light Company (DLC) today announced plans to bring additional holiday lighting to Point State Park that will include several large snowflakes and illuminated buildings. The new decorations will be installed in time for Pittsburgh’s Light Up Night on Saturday, Nov. 19, and will remain throughout the holiday season.
