2024 Charitable Giving Impact Clears Way for New Focus in 2025

DLC celebrates record-breaking employee participation, impactful community partnerships and a refreshed giving strategy

At DLC, our commitment to community extends beyond powering homes and businesses. Through our charitable giving and volunteerism programs, we’re investing in a more equitable, sustainable and resilient future for the Pittsburgh region.

In 2024, DLC’s Corporate Responsibility team made significant strides in deepening community partnerships, encouraging employee engagement; and preparing for a renewed focus in 2025 centered on energy affordability and basic needs.

Strengthening Communities Through Giving

Our charitable giving program provides financial support to nonprofit organizations aligned with our three strategic pillars:

• Social and economic equity

• Workforce development

• Sustainable communities

With roughly $2 million in charitable funds available annually (none of which come from customer rates), DLC awarded grants across the region — including $200,000 in microgrants through our Community Impacts Grant (CIG) program, which supports grassroots organizations with operating budgets of $500,000 or less. In 2024, 37 organizations were funded through this initiative.

We also strengthened our partnerships with larger nonprofits. When historic storms and extreme heat caused major outages in June 2024, DLC donated $20,000 to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to help customers replace spoiled groceries — an example of how we're aligning crisis response with community well-being.

Leading With Heart

Our people are the driving force behind our community impact. In 2024:

• 44% of employees participated in our Campaign for the Community, pledging more than $260,000 to 363 local organizations — supported by up to $2,500 in matching funds per employee.

• 4,806 volunteer hours were logged across the region, with employees serving at events, in planning roles and on nonprofit boards.

From planting trees with students on Arbor Day to assembling care packages for cancer patients during Women’s History Month, our volunteers made a tangible difference throughout the year.

Looking Ahead

As part of our ongoing strategy review, DLC’s charitable giving will place an increased emphasis on energy affordability and reducing customers’ energy burden in 2025. This means expanded support for essential needs, community resilience and workforce development, especially for vulnerable populations across our service territory.

Whether through hands-on volunteerism, targeted giving or strategic partnerships, DLC remains dedicated to creating a more inclusive and sustainable future for the region we’re proud to serve.
