Volunteers Help Empower Women to Achieve Economic Independence
In recognition of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, Duquesne Light Company partnered with Dress for Success, an organization that’s dedicated to empowering women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help them thrive in work and life. DLC employees across the company donated personal items, clothing, and accessories for the clients of Dress for Success.
Approximately 100 employee volunteers sorted and packaged the collected items before delivering them to Dress for Success. DLC employees also wrote messages of encouragement and support, which will be placed in suit jacket pockets for women who are taking steps toward improving their lives and embarking on the journey to economic independence. Representatives from Dress for Success also were onsite to share their personal experiences and stories of working with and helping many local women gain new employment, maintain their employment, and advance in their careers by having access to the wares, tools, and resources available to them through the organization.
“It was great to see so many volunteers dedicated to working together to make an impact in the lives of local women during their career journey,” said Carlynn Abdullah of Dress for Success. “When a woman comes into our boutique, they receive three personal care items and three professional accessories. Our inventory of these items diminishes quickly. This donation drive will allow the team to provide the necessary items to women for several weeks. We are grateful for the tremendous support from Duquesne Light and look forward to partnering with the organization on future endeavors.”
