PITTSBURGH — Duquesne Light Company (DLC) is working as quickly and safely as possible to assess damage and restore electric service to more than 240,000 customers in Allegheny and Beaver counties after an extraordinary storm passed through DLC’s service territory Tuesday evening. Due to the extensive damage and outages, DLC is requesting mutual assistance from utility peers to aid in restoration efforts.
DLC is reminding customers to stay away from downed wires, broken poles and other safety hazards. Do not approach a downed wire or any objects around or touching a wire, including puddles. Give ample space to lineworkers and troubleshooters and report downed wires or other hazardous situations to DLC’s emergency number at 888-393-7000.
With high gusts nearing 80 mph causing significant damage across the region, today’s storm is unprecedented in DLC’s history. These heavy winds knocked down trees, broke utility poles and caused more than 20,000 separate reports of hazards so far.
Crews are working around the clock to assess the damage and establish an estimated time of restoration for all customers. Safety is DLC’s number one priority so response times and damage assessments may be delayed to prioritize the safety of our workers.
