Duquesne Light Company Expects Restoration for All Customers by Sunday Afternoon

Approximately 8,700 customers remain without power as crews continue restoration efforts

PITTSBURGH — Duquesne Light Company (DLC) crews continue working around the clock to restore power following severe storms that caused extensive damage across Allegheny and Beaver counties Thursday evening.

Since restoration efforts began, crews have repaired widespread damage and restored power to more than 50,000 customers after high winds and heavy rain brought down trees, power lines and other electric infrastructure throughout the region.

As of 9 p.m. Friday, approximately 8,700 customers across 370 outages remain without power.

DLC expects all customers to be restored by 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, with many restored sooner.

"While restoration work is progressing steadily, safety remains our top priority," said Kevin Eckert, DLC’s senior manager of transmission operations, who is leading restoration efforts for this storm. "We appreciate our customers' continued patience as crews work throughout the Labor Day weekend to safely restore service to every customer as quickly as possible."

To support restoration efforts, more than 250 mutual assistance personnel from Alabama, Florida, New York and Quebec, Canada have arrived or are continuing to arrive to join DLC crews and contractors in the field. These additional resources will help complete remaining repairs as quickly and safely as possible throughout the service territory.

Safety Reminders for the Public

  • Call 9-1-1 for emergency medical situations.
  • Stay away from downed wires, broken poles and other storm-related hazards. Never approach a downed wire or any object that may be in contact with a wire.
  • Report downed wires or hazardous situations to DLC at 888-393-7000.
  • Report outages through DLC's mobile app, DuquesneLight.com or by calling 888-393-7100.
  • Use flashlights or battery-operated lanterns for emergency lighting and avoid using candles.
  • Operate generators only in well-ventilated outdoor areas away from buildings.
  • Check on elderly and vulnerable family members, friends and neighbors who may need assistance.

DLC's Restoration Process

When weather causes widespread damage, restoration priorities are:

  1. Public safety hazards
  2. Public health and safety facilities (critical customers)
  3. Major circuits
  4. Small neighborhoods and individual homes

For more information on restoration priorities and outage updates, customers can visit DLC's website and social media channels.
