Duquesne Light Company Continuing to Work Around the Clock to Restore Remaining Customers
Thousands of hazards being worked through; 600 additional crews helping with restoration efforts
PITTSBURGH — Duquesne Light Company (DLC), along with about 600 additional crew members from outside utilities and contractors, are working tirelessly to restore the remaining 50,000 customers without service. During the damage assessment process, DLC has evaluated thousands of reported hazards — including broken poles, downed wires and fallen trees — that led to outages affecting approximately 325,000 customers at its peak on Tuesday evening. On Friday, May 2, more severe weather rolled into parts of DLC’s service territory, adding about 18,000 additional outages due to falling trees and motor vehicle accidents.
After evaluating most of the damage, DLC has determined that the estimated time of restoration for all customers is Tuesday, May 6, at 11 p.m., with most customers expected to be restored sooner.
Safety remains DLC’s top priority. The company continues to urge customers to stay at least 30 feet away from downed wires, broken poles and other safety hazards. Always assume that a downed wire is live and never approach a downed wire or any objects that are around or touching a wire, including puddles.
The public should also give ample space to lineworkers and troubleshooters and report downed wires or other hazardous situations to DLC’s emergency number at 888-393-7000. For more safety tips on what to do if you see a downed wire, visit our website.
Additionally, customers should never move any barriers or caution tape that is put in place for public safety.
