Duquesne Light Company Announces Executive Leadership Change in Operations

Brian Guzek named vice president of operations; John Hilderbrand II to retire Nov.1

PITTSBURGH — Duquesne Light Company (DLC) today announced the appointment of Brian Guzek as the new vice president of operations, effective Aug. 1, 2025. Guzek will succeed John Hilderbrand II, who will retire on Nov. 1, 2025, following a distinguished career spanning more than four decades in the electric utility industry, including over 10 years at DLC.

During his tenure, Hilderbrand II led transformative initiatives that significantly enhanced the safety, reliability and affordability of electric service for more than 600,000 customers across southwestern Pennsylvania. Under his leadership, DLC nearly tripled its operations capital investments, helping the company maintain its position as one of the most reliable electric utilities in the state.

“John has made a significant and lasting contribution to DLC and our customers during his tenure here. We sincerely appreciate his years of dedicated service, thoughtful guidance and leadership,” said DLC President and CEO Kevin Walker. “We extend our gratitude for his commitment and wish him well in his future endeavors.”

With Hilderbrand II’s retirement, Guzek, previously vice president of corporate strategy, will become vice president of operations. Since joining DLC nearly eight years ago as chief procurement officer, Guzek has held roles of increasing responsibility, including oversight of advanced grid solutions, process excellence, transportation electrification, innovation and data and analytics. Prior to DLC, he held senior positions within U.S. Steel’s global transformation and reliability group, with various roles focused on manufacturing, operations and procurement.

“Brian’s deep understanding of our operations and his passion for safety, innovation and customer service make him the ideal leader to guide our Operations team into the future,” said Walker. “We are confident that he will continue to build on John’s legacy and drive meaningful progress for our customers and communities.”

As part of a succession plan that has been thoughtfully developed for some time, Hilderbrand II will remain with DLC in an advisory capacity through November. During this time, he will offer his respected leadership and guidance to support a smooth transition, reinforcing his steadfast commitment to the company and its Operations team.
