Duquesne Light Company Achieves Sustainable Pittsburgh Workplace Platinum Designation

Duquesne Light Company (DLC) is proud to announce that it has earned a Platinum designation as a Sustainable Pittsburgh Workplace. This designation represents DLC’s commitment to managing the environmental, social and governance (ESG) impacts of its operations as central to its strategy to successfully leading the region in the transition to a clean energy future for all. 

Administered by the nonprofit Sustainable Pittsburgh, this recognition program champions businesses, nonprofits and other institutions for advancing vibrant communities and environmentally responsible practices. Workplaces are recognized with one of four levels of designation ranging from Bronze to Platinum for demonstrating a commitment to socially just and environmentally sustainable operations. ​ 

Created through a national benchmarking of best practices with insights from a cross sector of sustainability professionals and advisors, the program scores the actions a workplace can take to advance its sustainable practices. It is tailored towards organizations of all sizes and sectors in southwestern Pennsylvania that are working to save money, conserve resources, create more equitable communities and make valuable contributions to the local and regional economies in which they operate. 

DLC is one of four organizations to earn Platinum designation and be acknowledged for its commitment to sustainability based on efforts in areas including energy efficiency; diversity, equity and inclusion; greenhouse gas emissions; transportation/fleet; and responsible procurement. 

“Sustainable Pittsburgh is excited to welcome DLC to the growing number of designated Sustainable Pittsburgh Workplaces,” said Gina Johnson, director of programs at Sustainable Pittsburgh. “DLC’s commitment to embedding sustainability as a core value enables it to strengthen its bottom line, stand out as an employer of choice and contribute to the vibrancy of its community.” ​ 

In May 2023, DLC released its inaugural ESG report — titled “Advancing a Clean Energy Future for All” — which discloses the company’s performance in three core areas of its ESG strategy: climate conscious, powering people and responsible performance. This designation further validates the strategy DLC has deployed to advance ESG today and the commitments made towards long-term ESG targets. These combined efforts are an essential part of advancing a clean energy future for all that benefits the Pittsburgh region. ​
