DLC Substantially Completes April 29 Storm Restoration;
Remaining Outages Due to Subsequent Events to be Restored May 7
Inclement weather has caused additional outages and delayed repairs
PITTSBURGH — Duquesne Light Company (DLC) has achieved its announced goal of reaching substantial completion of power restoration following the unprecedented storm that struck the region on April 29 while also assessing and repairing thousands of outages that began after that date due to subsequent weather events and other factors.
At peak outage, about 325,000 DLC customers lost power due to the April 29 storm, or about half of the company’s customer base. After calling in more than 600 contractors from outside the region and shifting to an “all hands on deck” posture with its own staff, the company has worked around the clock to restore power across Beaver and Allegheny counties.
As of 8 p.m. May 6, fewer than 1,000 customers who lost service as a result of the April 29 storms are still without power. Crews have continued to discover more extensive damage to the circuits that serve these customers, and weather events that have occurred in the meantime have slowed progress, as well. These customers, as well as those who lost power in later events, are all expected to be restored to service by 11 p.m. Wednesday, May 7.
DLC greatly appreciates our customers’ patience throughout this process, and the support of elected officials, business partners and the community has been invaluable. We are committed to getting all of our customers back online as soon as possible.
