"body": "
PITTSBURGH — With the construction and home improvement season ramping up, Duquesne Light Company (DLC) is reminding the public to follow safety best practices on worksites, particularly those near power lines and other electrical infrastructure.

It is critical that homeowners and those on the job make sure they are taking the proper steps to ensure their safety. The first, and most important rule, is to always treat power lines and equipment as if they are energized. Also, always examine the site, make a safety boundary and use a dedicated spotter. These recommendations and more can be found on DLC’s website as a detailed resource for those who are working outdoors this summer.

In addition to following these best practices, call DLC to install temporary protective covering on our electrical facilities (called “cover-up”) to help prevent accidental contact with an uninsulated line. If customers are interested in securing cover-up for a project, visit our website to learn more.

If someone is planning on doing work at a location that is at or near energized electric lines, there are certain risks involved. Work must conform to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, including those concerning work near all energized electric lines. For more information, visit OSHA's website.

“Safety is always the first priority for DLC, whether it’s our workers, our customers or the community in general,” said Brian Guzek, vice president of operations. “We cannot stress enough the importance of taking the proper safety measures when working near electrical infrastructure. Please use the many resources available from our company and other agencies to keep yourself and others as safe as possible while you’re working.”
",
